Are You Using a Ranking System in Your Camp?-PART 2
I have been running a ranking system in my gym for a little over a year now and the feedback I have received from my clients is amazing.
My clients are more motivated and getting better results because they have new short-term goals every few months.
This can be used with Group Training Sessions, Boot Camps, and even One on One clients. Using rank structure within your fitness business builds a strong sense of belonging, which is great for your clients as well as great for your business.
Now you all should know how important a sense of belonging is. Everyone likes to feel like they are part of something. A sense of belonging is a very powerful emotion.
This emotion has played a role in our life ever since we were little and wanted to fit in with all the popular kids in school. Even if you are saying to yourself right now, that you weren’t one of those kids. That you were a loner and you liked it that way.
You are lying to yourself. We all want to be liked. We all want to fit in and be a part of something. So make your personal training business one of those things. Make your clients want to be a part of it.
You might be saying, “yeah that’s easy, everybody knows that”, but what are you doing to make your clients feel like they belong? Are you doing something everyday? Are you doing something every week? Or are you not doing anything at all and just thinking about it.
BE AN ACTION TAKER!
In this line of work if you are not an action taker, you will get left in the dust.
Now I want to cover a common problem that trainers run into when running Boot Camps and Group Training sessions.
Have you ever stood in front of your class and thought to yourself, “This is going to be a pain in the ass, having to train brand new clients with my advanced clients.”
I got this complaint from almost everyone of my trainers. Yes, it can be done and most of us do it. But wouldn’t it be nice if we could make our lives a little easier.
With a ranking system, you can do this.
Once I had my ranking system in place, I made separate classes for different levels. I have a Boot Camp for Levels 0-2 and another Camp for Levels 3-5. I also did this with my Group Training sessions. We call them Team Training sessions.
This made everyone happy. My trainers were enjoying their jobs more because they could design the clients workouts better.
It made the advanced clients happy because the trainers could focus on making sure they got a more challenging workout. The trainers time was no longer being sucked up by newbie’s that didn’t know what they were doing. And it gave them a sense of pride and accomplishment being able to test into the higher-level sessions.
Now for the new clients, you know how scary this can be for them. Starting something new and being worried about looking bad in front of other people.
With this set up, you can explain to them, they don’t have the pressure of having to keep up with the advanced clients.
Everyone in the session is at the same level as they are. Taking away this fear is priceless. They also have the added motivation of setting a goal to rank up, so they can be a part of the more elite sessions.
I know it takes quite a bit of time to put together a ranking system for your clients. It took me over two years to develop and test mine.
